Large Friends is a site that specializes in catering to the dating desires of heavyset men and women, as well as their admirers. Unlike some other sites that find a good name and publish it to reach a market without really looking into the needs of those people, this site has clearly taken its time and made one that’s as big and beautiful as the people it serves.

The profiles at LargeFriends.com contain a decent amount of information to fill out using dropdown boxes, and give you space to write a few words about yourself. Since there aren't any optional questionnaires to complete beyond the main info, they don't go into as much depth as some other sites do. At any rate, until you upgrade, you can only search by the most basic of criteria anyway.

Free searches are limited to a 100-mile radius of your home city, zip or postal code. The 50-mile option is blocked until you’re ready to join. Photo-only searches are also limited to those who've paid for a membership. A keyword search for paid members might also help to find profiles that mention interests or hobbies that aren't part of the standard profile criteria. You won't see last login info either unless you upgrade.

Free membership is just enough to get your feet wet. You can show interest in someone by sending a wink. You can reply free to paid members, whether they send you emails or instant messages. There are other free areas of the site to enjoy, too, such as personal blogs and message boards, for example. If your post in the forum gets enough replies, you might even earn some temporary free access to the site.

However, you will constantly be reminded of the features you’re missing out on with an upgrade page appearing anytime you try to access a restricted area of the site. As to these premium features of LargeFriends, there are daily plus-sized news articles to read and plus-sized videos to watch. It isn't completely clear what the vids are about, since they're labeled as "hot" without any further description given and the site doesn't allow you to upload your own video intro.

When we first visited the site it had some modest but measurable success at attracting people to its pages. Unfortunately, what little popularity it once had seems to have further declined, despite marketing to both big, beautiful women (BBW) and to big, handsome men (BHM), as well as admirers of both. Large Friends needs to expand its numbers, which should be easy as more and more people are fed up with online dating sites populated by stick figures and bodybuilders.
